Should we think of Big Tech as Big Brother? (FT headline)

The above FT headline on 4th January 2019 captioned a review of Shoshana Zuboff's book 'The Age of Surveillance Capitalism' which the reviewer described as 'unmissable' despite having reservations about some of its arguments. As well as being a withering attack on Google and Facebook it introduces into public discourse the much needed economic category of 'surveillance capitalism' with which to classify organisations like Google. Back in 2017 my fellow blogger The Ranter issued the post 'Are You Coding For Big Brother?' which ended with the sentence 'Big Tech = Big Brother'. This book provides the supporting evidence for that sentence
